The Twifo Atti-Morkwa District Assembly has completed the installation of solar-powered streetlights in several communities across the district to improve nighttime visibility and support economic activities.

The project, which covers both grid-connected and off-grid communities, is expected to enhance security, improve mobility after dark, and create an enabling environment for businesses to operate beyond regular working hours.

Mr Isaac Yawson, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Twifo Atti-Morkwa, said the initiative formed part of efforts to position the district to benefit from the Government’s proposed 24-hour economy policy.

He said inadequate street lighting had over the years constrained commercial activities in many communities, particularly for traders and transport operators whose businesses extended into the evening.

Mr Yawson said reliable lighting infrastructure was essential to support extended business hours while improving public safety and confidence among residents.

He said the solar streetlights had been installed at strategic locations, including markets, transport terminals and along major roads, to facilitate movement and enhance security during the night.

The DCE noted that the use of solar-powered lighting would also reduce dependence on the national electricity grid while ensuring a reliable source of lighting for communities that experience intermittent power supply or have no access to the national grid.

He expressed optimism that the project would stimulate local economic activities, improve security, and prepare the district to take advantage of opportunities associated with the implementation of the Government’s proposed 24-hour economy policy.
