The Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives Ghana has accused the Government of erasing validated salary arrears from members’ payment vouchers without making any corresponding payments, describing the development as “deeply troubling” and demanding immediate accountability.
In a statement issued on Thursday, February 26, the Coalition said a number of affected members consistently had their salary arrears validated in the Government payroll system each month, despite not receiving the actual payments.
“However, upon the most recent validation for February 2026, these accumulated arrears have suddenly and completely disappeared from our Payment Vouchers,” the statement said.
The group further alleged that when the matter was brought to public attention, the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department moved swiftly to deny the claims.
“This denial is shocking and unacceptable,” the Coalition stated.
According to the Coalition, Payroll Validators and Human Resource Officers across various health facilities have independently confirmed that the arrears were cleared from the payment vouchers of affected nurses and midwives, without any payments being made.
“Our questions are: who authorised the removal of our legitimately earned arrears, and on what legal or administrative basis were these arrears cleared?” the statement queried.
The Coalition described the situation as unjust and dishonest, arguing that it reinforces long-standing concerns about transparency in the handling of their salaries.
“Nurses and midwives who have worked tirelessly for this country cannot and will not accept a situation where their hard-earned income is quietly wiped away from official records,” it said.
The group called on the Government to immediately investigate the anomaly and restore and pay all unlawfully removed arrears without delay, warning of possible action if the matter is not resolved.
