President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of the New Float Glass Manufacturing Company at Shama in the Western Region, describing the project as a major milestone in Ghana’s industrial transformation agenda.
The ceremony, organised by KEDA (Ghana) Ceramics Company Limited on Tuesday, also saw the inauguration of the fifth phase of the company’s tile production line and the commissioning of a modern sanitary wares factory.
President Mahama said when fully operational, the float glass facility would produce 1,400 tonnes of glass daily, positioning it among the largest on the African continent.
He noted that the project was expected to reduce imports, generate an estimated 100 million dollars in annual exports, strengthen local supply chains, create sustainable employment opportunities, and contribute significantly to national revenue through taxes.
The President urged management and staff to treat the factory as their own, stressing that Ghana’s industrialisation drive would succeed when government provided stability, investors brought capital, and communities offered strong partnership.
He emphasised that Made-in-Ghana products could compete globally when driven by skill, innovation and uncompromising quality.
