The flagbearer of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Kofi Akpaloo, has been taken into custody by operatives of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), according to sources familiar with the matter.
The unannounced operation, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, 3 September, at Akpaloo’s Kumasi residence, was carried out by EOCO’s elite Surveillance and Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) from Accra, in coordination with the agency’s Ashanti Regional team.
Insiders say the arrest was executed quietly, with no resistance reported.
Although EOCO has yet to confirm the operation or provide official details, sources indicate that Akpaloo is being transported to Accra to assist with an undisclosed investigation.
The exact nature of the allegations remains unclear, fueling speculation across political circles and social media. As of now, EOCO has not issued any public statement regarding the circumstances of the arrest.
