A senior high school bursar in the Greater Accra Region has been arrested for allegedly diverting food supplies meant for students, raising concerns over accountability in public education institutions.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Shai-Osudoku, Linda Ocloo, confirmed the arrest of Lamisi Sarah, bursar of Ghanata Senior High School, following what she described as a discreet investigation conducted with support from the National Security apparatus.

“I confirmed the activity and the suspect was apprehended in the act,” Ms Ocloo said in a statement. “I directed the officers to hand her over to the police so that due process can take its full course under the law.”

She explained that credible reports received in recent weeks had raised red flags about the possible misappropriation of food provisions allocated to the school.

The Minister noted that the supplies were critical to student welfare, stressing that any diversion constituted a breach of public trust.

“This incident is deeply troubling. Acts of this nature undermine public confidence in our institutions and directly affect the well-being of students placed under our care,” she stated.

Ms Ocloo assured the public that investigations would be handled transparently and that any person found culpable would face the full rigour of the law.

The arrest has sparked renewed calls for stricter oversight and accountability mechanisms in the management of public school resources.
