The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Upper Denkyira East, Hon. George Anane Coleman, has defended the construction of new speed ramps within the Dunkwa-On-Offin township, describing the intervention as necessary to improve road safety.
Speaking on Denkyiraman Radio, Hon. Coleman said the speed ramps were intended to curb excessive speeding by motorists and commercial motorcycle riders, which had contributed to a rise in road accidents in the municipality.
He explained that the measure was aimed at reducing knock-down incidents involving school children, pedestrians and other road users in various parts of the township.
However, the project has attracted mixed reactions from the public.
Some drivers and residents have expressed concern about the height of the ramps and the quality of materials being used, describing the construction as substandard and potentially dangerous.
The Chairman of the Dunkwa Town Runners Taxi Association, Mr. Zack, criticised the contractor and the supervising engineer, describing the work as “lazy” and below standard. He appealed to the MCE to intervene to ensure the ramps were properly constructed to serve their intended purpose.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Assembly is expected to continue engaging stakeholders as construction progresses across the township.
