Hundreds of anxious parents, guardians, and students thronged the National Resolution Centre in Accra yesterday to seek solutions to challenges arising from this year’s senior high school (SHS) computer placement exercise.

The grievances ranged from students who were not placed at all, to those assigned to schools they had not selected, as well as cases where applicants requesting day status were offered boarding and vice versa. Some parents also complained about day students being placed in schools far from their homes, making commuting difficult.

By the start of the working day, more than 500 people had gathered at the centre, where officials guided them through the resolution process. Despite the large crowd, proceedings remained orderly and continued until after 5 p.m.

Deputy Minister of Education Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, who visited the centre to monitor operations, reassured the public that all concerns would be addressed before schools reopen on October 18, 2025.

“We acknowledge that not everyone has been placed in his or her school of choice, but we are committed to ensuring that every child is placed in a school that will serve their educational needs,” Dr. Apaak stated.

He explained that the Ministry of Education had anticipated some placement challenges and deliberately set the reopening date to allow sufficient time for redress.

The resolution centre is expected to continue receiving cases in the coming days as officials work to ensure a smooth transition for students into their various SHSs.
