Members of the Minority in Parliament staged a dramatic walkout on Thursday, July 24, just moments before Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson was scheduled to deliver the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review.

The Minority caucus cited concerns surrounding the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun, held two weeks ago, as the reason for their protest.

According to the group, the rerun was marred by voter intimidation, acts of violence, and the misuse of state security forces, which they argue severely undermined the integrity of Ghana’s democratic process.

Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh explained that the caucus could not, in good conscience, participate in the budget proceedings while ignoring what they described as a serious assault on democratic norms.

“We cannot legitimize the business of the day while the sanctity of our democracy is being trampled,” he stated.

The walkout cast a political shadow over what was expected to be a major presentation by the Finance Minister, aimed at assessing the impact of the Mahama administration’s economic interventions midway through the fiscal year.
