The community of Nartey, near Menang in the Adansi South District of the Ashanti Region, has been thrown into shock following a tragic incident in which a 27-year-old man allegedly murdered his father.
The suspect, identified as Richard Yeboah, is reported to have slit the throat of his father, Akwasi Yeboah popularly known as Akwasi Yomo on Wednesday, September 10. The gruesome act has left residents in mourning and disbelief.
According to locals, this was not the first time Richard had attempted to harm his father. They claim he had made two previous attempts on his life, but while those efforts failed, the latest one proved fatal.
The victim, a 52-year-old farmer, was well known in the community. Speaking to the media, Robert Odami, Assembly Member for the Menang Electoral Area, said the incident has left residents living in fear. “People are terrified. No one expected something this violent to happen in our community,” he remarked.
Unit Committee Chairman, Seth Agyiri, confirmed that police in New Edubiase have since arrested the suspect. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the New Edubiase Government Hospital mortuary as investigations continue.
