Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), has pleaded not guilty to charges related to a controversial $2 million payment for the now-stalled SkyTrain project.
At a court hearing today, he was granted bail of GH¢10 million with two sureties, both of whom must possess landed property within the Greater Accra Region. He has also been ordered to deposit his passport and all travel documents with the court.
The charges against him include willfully causing financial loss to the state, intentional dissipation of public funds, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
The court proceedings stem from allegations that Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi and former GIIF CEO Solomon Asamoah authorized a $2 million payment to Africa Investor Holdings Limited without the approval of the GIIF Board.
Both accused persons have pleaded not guilty. Solomon Asamoah has also been granted bail set at GH¢15 million under similar conditions.
