The 31st Ordinary Congress of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has voted to approve a proposal allowing a third term for the Association’s President.

At the Congress, held at the Hon. E.T. Mensah Hall at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, 114 members voted in favour of the amendment, six opposed it, and three abstained. This was the most significant decision taken at the session on Tuesday, August 12.

The move has sparked public criticism, with opponents questioning the need to extend the GFA President’s term limit beyond the current maximum of two four-year terms. Proponents argue that the change will give a president more time to implement long-term plans and achieve significant results.

The amendment is widely believed to have been championed by allies of the current GFA President, Kurt Okraku. When asked after the vote whether he would seek a third term, the CAF Second Vice President said: “The question is premature. We have almost two-and-a-half years to serve the Ghanaian game, and when that time comes, I will make a decision just like many others who are eligible to contest.”
