President John Mahama has issued a strong warning to his ministerial appointees, insisting that results not excuses are expected, and underperformance will not be tolerated.
Speaking on the opening day of a four-day leadership program for ministers on April 24, 2025, the President emphasized that public service is a duty to the Ghanaian people who voted for change.
“You were not appointed to occupy space. You were appointed to solve problems,” he said. “The Ghanaian people expect us to deliver. And we must – not with excuses, but with results.”
Describing the leadership programme as a launchpad for governance reform, President Mahama urged appointees to abandon outdated ways of thinking and embrace innovation.
“The old way of doing things is dead and gone,” he declared. “We’re not here simply to orient ministers. We’re here to shape a collective mindset.”
The President stressed that the programme is meant to build a shared vision of responsive and accountable governance, centered on the needs of ordinary citizens.
“Our young people are tired of waiting interminably. Our farmers, our workers, our entrepreneurs… all want to live in dignity and prosperity,” he said.
President Mahama concluded with a firm reminder that ministers must grasp the urgency of their roles. “Underperformance will be met with swift action,” he warned.
