The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, has sent a strong message to Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) across the Central Region, insisting that leadership must be visible on project sites rather than confined to office desks.
During an inspection qof the ongoing 24-hour economy market project in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District, the Minister expressed concern over what he described as a growing tendency among some local government officials to supervise critical development projects through phone calls and routine updates without physically assessing progress on the ground.
According to him, development cannot be driven by distant instructions. Effective governance, he stressed, requires leaders to engage directly with contractors, monitor the quality of work, identify emerging challenges and ensure public resources are delivering the intended benefits.
Hon. Eduamoah warned that any MMDCE who fails to undertake regular site visits and provide active supervision of government projects will be held accountable. He noted that visible commitment from local authorities not only accelerates project delivery but also strengthens confidence among stakeholders and enhances the likelihood of attracting further government support.
The Minister explained that his visit was part of a broader effort to evaluate the implementation of the government’s 24-hour economy policy and assess the readiness of supporting infrastructure across the region. He emphasized that continuous monitoring remains essential to eliminating bottlenecks, maintaining standards and ensuring that projects achieve their developmental objectives.
He further observed that the success of government interventions depends largely on the commitment of local leadership, stressing that communities deserve leaders who are present, responsive and fully invested in the projects intended to improve their lives.
Responding to the Minister’s remarks, the District Chief Executive for Twifo Atti-Morkwa, Hon. Isaac Yawson, reaffirmed his commitment to delivering all government-backed initiatives within the district.
He assured residents and the Regional Minister that the 24-hour economy market project would receive his personal attention, pledging to maintain a strong presence on site and work closely with contractors to guarantee quality execution and timely completion.
The Minister’s warning serves as a reminder that development is not measured by directives issued from offices but by results achieved on the ground. As government intensifies efforts to transform local economies through strategic infrastructure investments, accountability, visibility and hands-on leadership are increasingly becoming the benchmark for public service delivery.
