Obeng said the president had already made his position clear against what is widely known in Ghana as “protocol” recruitment a system critics say allows politically connected individuals to influence recruitment into the security services.

“His Excellency the President has made it clear that he does not support the sale of slots or so-called ‘protocol’ recruitment into the security services,” Obeng wrote.

“His intention is to ensure equal opportunity for every Ghanaian.”

The lawmaker warned that mishandling recruitment and the siting of markets under the 24-hour economy initiative could create tension.

“Please listen carefully: if these two issues are not handled with caution, discipline, fairness and selflessness, hell will break loose and the devil will enter town wearing only boxer shorts,” he said.

Obeng also cautioned against establishing a 24-hour economy market in his constituency without following proper procedures, raising questions about land acquisition and consultation.

“As for the 24-Hour Economy Market, no one can simply decide to build it in my constituency unless the right processes are followed,” he wrote. “Where will the land come from?”

He further warned that he would publicly expose any wrongdoing if concerns over recruitment practices or the market initiative were ignored.

“If the issues mentioned above are not addressed, I will not hesitate to speak out, expose what must be exposed and make the truth known,” he said.
