Upper Denkyira East Faces Poor Sanitation Challenge

To start with, Dunkwa is a renowned town in Ghana and very large but there is something that is shadowing the Dunkwa we know at first and thus Sanitation

By definition, sanitation is the process of keeping environs free from dirt, infection or disease by removing waste, trash and garbage from the streets and other living places.

But it seems this definition of sanitation has been intertwined the other way around at Dunkwa and its environs.

Talking about how we keep our dumping sites (bola), it’s very embarrassing.

Generally, rubbish could be liquid or solid waste and both of them could be hazardous to our health and the entire community as a whole. We all throw away rubbish every day, and therefore there is a need to properly dispose of it.

It is a fact that proper disposal of rubbish has always been a difficult problem throughout Ghana, at first we used to throw rubbish at a very open place where you go and throw your rubbish away without paying any money.

But we decided to save lands and others for the promotion of our agriculture system by providing containers at every community so that when it’s full, the Zoom Lion Company Ltd will also do just it and send them away to commercially allocated dumping sites.

When you reach Dunkwa, it seems there are no Zoom lions in Dunkwa.
Reports gathered by eye-saws from Dunkwa’s various communities indicate that,
The Zoom Lion Company in Dunkwa is relaxing too much concerning our sanitation.

Could you imagine that some community rubbish containers in Dunkwa have lasted for a year with disposal, the residents have been complaining daily but to no avail by all efforts

There was a time when two assembly members of Dunkwa communities thus assembly member for the Atekyem electoral area and an assembly member for Kadadwen electoral area namely Hon. Kwasi Owusu and Hon. Jonathan Wireko respectively sent a sue note to the Manager of Zoom Lion, Mr. Quansah to be sued within 7 days when he doesn’t find way to empty their community rubbish containers,

Hence Mr. Quansah appealed to them that he would make sure he emptied all overflown rubbish (Bola ) Containers but to date, there are still overflown rubbish containers which have lasted Even Longer than 8 months.

As a result of this, it has put the lives of those living in the community in danger, always complaining about their health, it has affected buying and selling at market areas and lastly has tarnished the sanitation image of Dunkwa-on-offin.

Although the Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira East, Hon. Festus Awuah Kwoffie and the Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Ebenezer Appiah Forson together with the assembly are trying to convince the Zoom lion to do their work.
