The Ghana Education Service (GES) has finalised arrangements to promote qualified teachers to the ranks of Director II and Director I, removing previous restrictions that tied promotions to the availability of office vacancies.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the Service announced that the first call for applications, together with the required aptitude test, will be made public by the end of the first quarter of the year.
“Management anticipates that the first call for applications and the aptitude test for promotion to the ranks of Director II and Director I will be announced by the end of the first quarter of this year,” the statement said.
The promotion exercise follows extensive consultations with key stakeholders, including teacher unions, and the submission of a final report by a committee comprising representatives from the GES, the Public Services Commission, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
GES described the new promotion arrangement as a significant shift, noting that promotions will no longer be dependent on the availability of office vacancies. The move aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to improving conditions of service and career progression for teachers.
The Service assured eligible staff that further details, including comprehensive guidelines for the promotion process, would be communicated exclusively through official GES channels.
