The Government of Ghana, under President John Dramani Mahama, has appointed Kwasi Kyei Darkwah, popularly known as KKD, as the country’s new Special Envoy to the Caribbean.
On Friday, 14 November 2025, indicate that KKD a seasoned media personality with extensive experience in broadcasting, culture, and tourism will spearhead efforts to strengthen Ghana’s diplomatic and cultural relations with Caribbean nations.
His appointment comes at a strategic time as Ghana seeks to consolidate ties with countries such as Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, and Barbados. The envoy’s mandate forms a key part of Ghana’s broader foreign policy strategy aimed at expanding trade and investment opportunities, promoting Ghanaian culture internationally, and deepening cooperation with Caribbean partners on shared development priorities.
According to the reports, Ghana and the Caribbean share deep historical, cultural, and ancestral connections, making KKD’s role crucial in building stronger, lasting relationships.
KKD’s background in media, culture, and tourism positions him to effectively represent Ghana on the international stage and support the country’s economic and cultural engagement with the region.
His appointment is part of a list of 15 new diplomatic nominations, including ambassadors, high commissioners, and a consul-general designate who will represent Ghana’s interests across various countries.
Other notable nominees include businessman Benjamin A. Quashie as High Commissioner to South Africa, former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu as Ambassador to China, and former Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso, as Ambassador to India.
All nominees are expected to undergo the required vetting and approval processes before officially assuming their roles.
