The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Africa Centre for Hospitality, Aviation, and Tourism (AFCHAT) to strengthen hospitality education and industry collaboration in Ghana.

The partnership, spearheaded through the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Studies at the KNUST School of Business (KSB), aims to enhance practical training, career development, and job placement opportunities for students.

Under the agreement, modern hospitality facilities including a teaching hotel, a culinary centre, and an event space will be constructed on the KNUST campus to provide hands-on learning experiences and promote stronger ties between academia and the hospitality industry.

Short professional certification courses will also be rolled out to expand training opportunities and build skills relevant to the evolving needs of the sector.

Head of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Studies, Professor Foster Frempong, described the partnership as a forward-looking initiative designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

“This partnership is about preparing our students for real careers, not just classrooms. We are aligning our academic vision with industry needs,” he said.

Chief Executive Officer of AFCHAT, Akwasi Agyeman, said the collaboration underscores the organization’s commitment to developing leadership and capacity within Africa’s hospitality and tourism industries.

“This partnership is a practical step toward building capacity and creating pathways for leadership in hospitality across the continent,” he noted.
