A somber mood has engulfed residents of Abrepo Bronikrom in the Bantama Constituency of the Ashanti Region after a 7-year-old boy, identified as Kwame, drowned during Sunday’s heavy rainfall.
According to eyewitnesses, Kwame was in the company of two other children enjoying the downpour when one of their slippers was swept into a nearby gutter. In an attempt to retrieve it, Kwame tragically lost his balance and was carried away by the floodwaters.
“We are really scared because this is the first time such a thing has ever happened here,” a resident said.
As of Monday morning, the search for Kwame’s body remained unsuccessful.
Residents have also expressed concern over the absence of police and rescue teams at the scene, a situation that has heightened anxiety in the community.
