Schools, markets, and workplaces in Kumasi will shut down on Thursday, September 18, 2025, following directives from the Manhyia Palace as part of the burial rites for the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
The Funeral Planning Committee has outlined strict measures to ensure a solemn and orderly observance of the Dote Yie rites, which span from September 14 to 18. Under the directives, hawkers, motorbikes, tricycles, and mopeds will not be permitted on major roads leading to the Manhyia Palace. On the final day, all social and economic activities in Kumasi will be suspended.
The Committee has cautioned that individuals or groups who flout these instructions will face stern sanctions. The week-long traditional rites are expected to draw huge crowds of mourners, alongside high-profile dignitaries from Ghana and abroad.
Committee Chairman and Omanhene of Bompata, Nana Efa Apenteng, emphasized that the burial of Nana Konadu Yiadom III marks a historic and highly significant moment for the Asante Kingdom, attracting national and international attention to Kumasi. He assured the public that adequate arrangements have been made to maintain discipline, order, and security throughout the period.
