The Effutu Municipal Assembly has condemned alleged threats by National Democratic Congress (NDC) First Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka, against Effutu MP and Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

In a statement signed by Presiding Member Yakubu Quansah, the Assembly described the remarks as “reckless” and dangerous to Ghana’s democratic values.

“Violent threats pose a serious risk to public peace, intimidate elected officials, and weaken confidence in our democratic institutions,” the statement read.

It emphasized that Afenyo-Markin, known for his role in peace, development, and legislative leadership, deserves full respect and protection.

The Assembly called on the Ghana Police Service to investigate the matter thoroughly and take legal action if necessary to deter similar conduct.

With tensions high during the Akwatia by-election, the Assembly also appealed to political parties and supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and respectfully, stressing the importance of tolerance in Ghana’s democracy.
