The Electoral Commission (EC) will begin printing ballot papers for the upcoming Akwatia by-election on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, as part of its final preparations.
The by-election is scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025, to fill the vacant parliamentary seat left by the late Ernest Kumi, who until his passing represented the constituency in Parliament.
Speaking to the press in Accra on Tuesday, August 19, after a security briefing organized by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Director of Electoral Services, Benjamin Bano-Bioh, confirmed that procurement processes had been completed.
Mr. Bano-Bioh assured the public of the Commission’s commitment to professionalism and urged political parties and stakeholders to respect the rules of engagement.
He stressed that the EC would discharge its responsibilities with integrity and fairness, while calling on political actors to comply with regulations governing the process.
“We are poised to deliver on our mandate in a professional manner,” he emphasized.
“We call on political parties to play by the rules.”
