accident on Monday morning, August 4, 2025, claimed the lives of four young men in a fiery motorbike crash at Manso Watreso in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region.
According to eyewitnesses, two motorbikes each carrying two male riders collided head-on at high speed on the dusty, narrow Watreso road between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. The impact was so violent that both bikes immediately burst into flames, trapping all four riders beneath the wreckage. Sadly, none survived, as they were burnt beyond recognition.
Residents who rushed to the scene described it as heart-wrenching, with bodies charred and mangled among the smouldering remains of the motorbikes. Despite desperate attempts by locals to douse the flames with water and sand, the fire was too intense for any rescue.
“The sound of the crash was very loud. When we got there, everything was on fire. We couldn’t save them the flames were too high. It was very sad,” said an eyewitness, Kwame Manu.
Officers from the Ghana Police Service and personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were later deployed to the scene to recover the bodies and manage traffic. The remains have since been taken to the morgue at St. Martin’s Hospital in Agroyesum.
While the identities of the deceased have not yet been officially confirmed, preliminary information suggests they were young men from nearby communities within the Manso enclave.
Although investigations are ongoing, early assessments point to excessive speeding and reckless riding by both motorcyclists as likely causes of the accident.
Shocked by the incident, residents and local leaders in Manso Watreso are calling on authorities to step up road safety education and enforce traffic regulations especially targeting commercial motorbike operators, who are prevalent in the area.
This tragedy adds to the rising toll of fatal motorbike accidents in rural Ghana, highlighting the urgent need for stricter safety measures and regulatory enforcement.
The Amansie South District Police Command is urging the public to remain calm as investigations continue. Meanwhile, local leaders and community members are offering support to the bereaved families during this difficult time.
