Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has assured Ghanaians that the government has no intention of selling the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Instead, he explained that the government is seeking strategic partnerships with the private sector in specific operational areas such as revenue collection and billing.

“Let me put on record that we are not selling ECG. What we are seeking to do is to involve the private sector, particularly in the billing and collection sector,” Mr. Jinapor stated.

Speaking at the Government’s Accountability Series on July 16, the Minister encouraged Ghanaian firms to actively participate in ECG’s transformation.

“And I encourage Ghanaians to take a keen interest in this. We have good Ghanaian entrepreneurs; this is an opportunity for you. Get involved and help us to bring about improvement in the sector.”

He revealed that Cabinet has approved the participation of the private sector in ECG’s distribution network to help improve revenue collection and operational efficiency.

Mr. Jinapor stressed the importance of collaboration in building a more robust and sustainable power utility, inviting the public to seize the opportunity to contribute to the sector’s development.
