The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has announced the immediate suspension of its industrial action.
The decision comes after intensive negotiations with government representatives and key stakeholders.
GRNMA President, Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, has directed over 120,000 nurses and midwives across the country to resume work on Saturday, June 14.
Speaking during an online news conference, she said: “Our meeting with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health on June 12, 2025, was productive and has paved the way for a resolution regarding our collective bargaining agreement.”
The strike, which began on June 4, had severely disrupted services at public hospitals and clinics nationwide.
The GRNMA had been demanding the full implementation of its 2024 Collective Agreement, including the payment of various allowances.
While calling off the strike, the association cautioned that it will be monitoring the government’s actions closely to ensure adherence to the agreed terms.
With nurses and midwives returning to duty, healthcare services across Ghana are expected to normalize, bringing relief to the country’s overstretched health system.
A follow-up meeting is scheduled for June 26 to further discuss the implementation of the agreement.
