Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has responded to criticism from the Minority in Parliament over delays in releasing statutory payments, including the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

He explained that the delay was due to the need to finalize leadership appointments at the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assembly (MMDA) levels, particularly the confirmation of Chief Executives.

With the majority of these confirmations now complete, Cabinet has approved the release of DACF funds in accordance with Parliament’s authorization.

Ayariga assured that the government remains committed to transferring at least 80% of the funds directly to the Assemblies, as required.

He also emphasized that the funds will be used responsibly, with only 5% allocated for administrative expenses. The remaining funds, he said, will be invested in critical capital projects, including:

Road construction
Health infrastructure
School buildings
Water supply initiatives

Ayariga’s comments were aimed at addressing concerns raised by the Minority and clarifying the government’s intentions for the timely and effective utilization of DACF resources.
