The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in Ghana’s Central Region is urging the public to prioritize food safety during the Easter celebrations.
The Authority advises consumers to check expiry dates, packaging integrity, and look out for signs of damage—such as rusted or corroded canned goods and torn boxes—before purchasing food items.
“When eating out, check if the eatery has a food hygiene permit to minimize the risk of food-related diseases. Also, consider the environment in which food is prepared and served,” said Ms. Francisca Anokye, Central Regional Director of the FDA.
Ms. Anokye stressed the importance of thoroughly inspecting pre-packaged products and being vigilant about the hygiene standards of food vendors during the festivities.
She noted that the Central Regional Directorate has implemented proactive measures, including intensified market surveillance, to ensure the safety of food sold during the Easter period.
The FDA also issued a stern warning to vendors against selling expired or contraband products, adding that offenders will face legal consequences.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing food safety regulations and protecting public health during the Easter season and beyond.
