WAEC is concluding its investigation into cheating and irregularities that occurred during the 2024 WASSCE and has announced that all withheld results will be released by February 28, 2025.
A recent court ruling determined that WAEC’s actions violated the students’ rights, stating that the council should have clearly communicated the reasons for withholding the results.
Despite this ruling, WAEC initially planned to finalize its investigation and release the results by the end of February.
John Kapi, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, addressed the media at their headquarters in Accra, reaffirming the council’s commitment to fairness and transparency in resolving the issue of withheld WASSCE results.
He emphasized that WAEC is dedicated to following proper procedures to ensure that all candidates are treated equally and that the integrity of the examination process is upheld.
This situation arises amid controversy over the withholding of results due to alleged malpractices, with some students taking WAEC to court regarding the matter.
“The Council has continued its hearings for the affected candidates and has been releasing results as appropriate. The Council assures all stakeholders that all cases of malpractices will be resolved, and results will be released by February 28,” Kapi stated.
Meanwhile, a High Court ruling on January 30, 2025, favored four students who represented 10,520 candidates whose WASSCE results were withheld due to suspected cheating.
The court ordered WAEC to release the withheld results; however, WAEC has appealed this decision and is seeking a stay of execution, which is scheduled to be heard on February 20. This will allow WAEC to complete its investigation before complying with the court’s order.
