A resident of the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District in the Central Region has appealed to political and traditional leaders to recognise and support individuals who voluntarily contribute to the development of their communities.
Mr Sammy, who has been clearing weeds along the roadside between Twifo Praso Bridge and Twifo Darmang, said greater recognition of volunteers would encourage more people to participate in communal development initiatives.
He said he had carried out the exercise continuously for more than four years without financial assistance, formal recognition or logistical support.
According to him, his decision to undertake the voluntary work is motivated by his desire to keep the roadside clean, improve visibility for motorists and pedestrians, and promote a healthier environment.
Mr Sammy noted that although many residents were willing to engage in voluntary community service, their enthusiasm often waned when their efforts went unnoticed.
He said acknowledging and encouraging volunteers would motivate others to dedicate their time and resources to activities that promote the development of their communities.
Mr Sammy, therefore, appealed to government officials, traditional authorities, assembly members and other community leaders to publicly recognise and support citizens who voluntarily contribute to local development.
He expressed the belief that such recognition would strengthen civic participation, foster a spirit of volunteerism and accelerate grassroots development across the district.
