The High Court has ordered the freezing of five bank accounts and four landed properties belonging to Mr Dennis Miracles Aboagye, former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), pending the outcome of investigations by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
The order bars all transactions involving the identified bank accounts and prohibits the sale, transfer, mortgage or disposal of the four properties until further orders of the court.
The preservation order forms part of EOCO’s ongoing investigations into alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities said to involve about GH¢55 million during Mr Aboagye’s tenure as Executive Secretary of the IMCCoD.
EOCO is examining financial transactions and procurement processes undertaken during the period under investigation to determine whether any financial impropriety occurred.
Under Ghanaian law, investigative agencies, including EOCO, may apply to the courts for preservation orders where there are reasonable grounds to believe that assets may be linked to suspected economic or organised crime.
Such orders are intended to preserve assets and prevent their transfer or disposal while investigations are ongoing.
Mr Aboagye has denied all the allegations against him, maintaining that he has committed no wrongdoing.
He has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢50 million with three sureties pending the conclusion of the investigations.
