The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has published a list of 20 unlicensed digital credit service providers operating in the country, warning the public to avoid transacting with them.
The central bank said it had observed the continued operation of entities offering digital loans to the Ghanaian public through mobile applications and other digital channels without the requisite licence or authorisation.
In a statement issued on Monday, the BoG said the activities of the operators contravened the Directive for Digital Credit Service Providers in Ghana (September 2025), published under Notice No. BG/GOV/SEC/2025/30, as well as other applicable laws.
“The Bank wishes to inform the public that the following mobile loan applications are operating without the requisite licence or authorisation from the Bank of Ghana,” the statement said.
The BoG cautioned the public against engaging with unlicensed digital lenders, stressing that such entities operate outside the country’s regulatory framework and may expose users to financial and data privacy risks.
It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting consumers and maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s financial system, adding that enforcement action would be taken against unauthorised operators in accordance with the law.
The Bank urged the public to verify the licensing status of digital credit providers before accessing their services and to report suspicious operators to the appropriate authorities.
