Mr. Enock Kwesi Gyatua, Executive Director of the Ghana National Council of Private Schools, has shared the outcome of his association’s meeting with the government regarding the proposed extension of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy to private institutions.
In an interview on Denkyiraman Radio’s National Agenda morning show, Mr. Gyatua disclosed that preparations are complete for students to select their preferred schools for secondary education now including private schools.
He revealed that the government will cover all costs for day students enrolled in private SHS institutions.
“For now, the government plans to cater for day students only, which excludes boarders. I’m sure with time, additional plans will be introduced,” he stated.
He also assured that private schools are adequately equipped to accommodate the incoming students.
“We have space and enough facilities to support students who enroll under this program,” he added.
Mr. Gyatua concluded by expressing satisfaction with the government’s approach and commended its support for private education.
“We’re ready to abide by the government’s policy and work accordingly. However, if a school and its PTA wish to add more to the program, it is allowed,” he noted.
