Applicants seeking birth certificates from the Births and Deaths Registry have been facing delays due to a shortage of special security paper, a key material used in certificate printing.

The situation has disrupted plans for many, especially those needing the documents urgently for travel, school admissions, and official documentation.

Some affected individuals say they’ve been advised to return in about a month, prompting public appeals for urgent government intervention.

Speaking to the media, Deputy Registrar Nicholas Osei Bonsu attributed the delays to an administrative challenge, but gave assurances that the issue has been resolved.

“We have received supplies of the security paper and printing is currently underway. Applicants can expect to collect their certificates in about two weeks,” he said.

The Registry is urging the public to remain patient as it works to clear the backlog and restore full service delivery across the country.
