The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Central Region has assured the public that a viral video showing people allegedly using cement to preserve beans did not originate from Ghana.
According to the Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the FDA, Mr. Eric Kwarteng, investigations have revealed that the video circulating on social media was recorded outside the country and does not reflect food handling practices in Ghana.
He made this known in an exclusive interview on the National Agenda programme on Denkyiraman Radio on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
Mr. Kwarteng stressed that cement or any industrial substance is not approved for food preservation under Ghana’s food safety standards, and cautioned traders and consumers against adopting such dangerous practices.
He said the FDA would continue to monitor food markets across the region to ensure compliance with safety regulations, and urged the public to report any suspicious food handling activities to the Authority.
The FDA also advised consumers to buy food items from trusted and approved sources to safeguard their health.
Meanwhile, the Authority has urged the public to disregard the viral video and avoid spreading unverified information.
