Authorities in the Central North Region have detained four inmates in connection with the suspicious death of a fellow detainee at the Twifo Praso Police Cells.

The deceased, identified as George Anim, aged 40, was arrested on November 25, 2026, over allegations of defilement involving a 14-year-old minor at Swedru Akuapem in the Assin Fosu Municipality. He was subsequently transferred to Twifo Praso to assist with further court processes.

However, on November 27, just two days after his arrest, Anim was found dead in a cell he shared with other inmates. Family members who later identified the body alleged that there were visible bruises and blood stains, raising suspicion of possible assault.

Following the incident, the Central North Regional Police Commander, DCOP Abraham Acquaye, accompanied by a team from the Regional Police Command, visited the bereaved family and assured them of a thorough investigation.

Preliminary police intelligence suggests that the deceased may have been involved in a physical altercation with some inmates in the cell, allegedly resulting in a severe beating.

Confirming the development, the Central North Regional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Edmond Agyemang Badu, told Angel News that four inmates suspected to have played a role in the incident have been arrested. He said the suspects are expected to be arraigned before court on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, to face charges.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
