The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed claims circulating on social media suggesting that senior high school (SHS) admissions are determined by fixed cut-off points. GES clarified that placements are not tied to predetermined score thresholds but are instead based on candidates’ raw examination results.
According to the Service, other factors such as the competitiveness of a school or programme, the overall performance of candidates in a given year, and catchment area considerations also play a role in the placement process. It described the fixed cut-off narrative as inaccurate and misleading, cautioning the public to disregard it.
GES further warned students, parents, and guardians against falling victim to such misinformation, often spread by individuals with dubious intentions. The Service reaffirmed its commitment to fairness and transparency, assuring stakeholders that every qualified student has an equal opportunity in the placement process.
