The Municipal Police Commander for Upper Denkyira East, DSP Simon Boavo, has described crime levels in the area as “very high,” citing drug abuse and unlawful use of motorbikes as the most pressing concerns.

Speaking on Denkyiraman Radio’s National Agenda show on Monday, August 25, DSP Boavo explained that his outfit, in collaboration with the Municipal Chief Executive, is taking steps to address the situation. He noted that cases involving drug addicts, illegal possession of narcotics, and the misuse of commercial motorbikes (okada) remain rampant.

The commander cautioned motorbike riders to ensure their vehicles are duly registered and licensed. He also revealed that ghettos within the municipality are being identified, warning that their operators and occupants will soon face arrest.

DSP Boavo, however, lamented the lack of a service vehicle, which he said severely limits the ability of his officers to patrol surrounding towns and swiftly apprehend suspects. “I appeal to the public to help in diverse ways to enable us purchase a vehicle for swift operations,” he pleaded.

Despite these challenges, the police chief praised residents for their cooperation, highlighting that community members often provide timely information to aid in arrests and investigations. He stressed that his tenure would be marked by active engagement, noting that he would not remain confined to his office but would consistently visit communities across the municipality to ensure crime is curbed.
