The Parliamentary Select Committee on Health is scheduled to meet today, June 12, with the leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) in a bid to resolve the ongoing nationwide strike.

The meeting, set at Parliament House, seeks to address the week-long industrial action that has severely disrupted healthcare services across the country.

GRNMA has been on strike since June 2, demanding the immediate implementation of the 2024 Collective Bargaining Agreement. According to the Association, the continued delay in enforcing the agreement affects not only the welfare of its members but also undermines the quality of healthcare delivery.

Prof. Titus Beyuo, a member of the Health Committee and MP for Lambussie, has urged the striking nurses and midwives to reconsider their stance, highlighting the dire consequences for patients and the general public.

In response to the growing pressure on the healthcare system, the Ministry of Health has appealed to retired health professionals to volunteer their services to help mitigate the impact.

The outcome of today’s meeting is expected to be pivotal in determining the next steps for the GRNMA and the government. Stakeholders across the health sector are watching closely, hoping for a swift and lasting resolution to the impasse.
