Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has criticized the NDC government for introducing a new tax, dubbed the “Dumsor Levy”, just months after abolishing the controversial E-Levy.

Speaking at the conclusion of his nationwide Thank You Tour in Cape Coast, Dr. Bawumia accused the NDC of making deceptive campaign promises and cautioned Ghanaians to brace themselves for further tax burdens.

“The NDC has told a lot of lies, and everyone sees their lies every day,” Dr. Bawumia said.

“They campaigned against the E-Levy, scrapped it, and now they’ve introduced the Dumsor Levy, which is far costlier.”

According to Dr. Bawumia, the new Dumsor Levy will impose a GHC1 tax on every liter of fuel purchased.

“If you buy GHC1,000 worth of fuel, you’ll pay GHC83 in tax,” he explained. “Compare that to the E-Levy, where you would have paid just GHC10 on a GHC1,000 transaction.”

He further warned that this could be the beginning of a string of new taxes.

“And more is yet to come,” he added. “By the time we get to 2028, Ghanaians will realize that they have truly lied to us.”

Dr. Bawumia’s remarks have stirred public concern about the NDC government’s tax policy direction and its potential economic impact on citizens.
