Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi has issued a stern warning to cattle rearers, stating that from May 1, 2025, stray cattle found causing problems in the city will be confiscated, slaughtered, and donated to the Kumasi Central Prison to feed inmates.

This move is aimed at addressing the growing nuisance of stray cattle roaming the streets and damaging public and private property.

The mayor’s announcement comes amid increasing public concern over the negative impact of stray cattle on city life and infrastructure.

Prominent figures, including Otumfuo’s Saamanhene, Nana Osei Kwaku III, have also voiced frustration over the situation, emphasizing the damage to the city’s image.

“Cattle owners, take note: if your animals are found straying within the jurisdiction of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) particularly along the route from the airport to Manhyia Palace. they will be seized and donated to the Kumasi Central Prison as food starting May 1,” the mayor warned.

“I cannot sit and watch visitors arrive in Kumasi and travel from the airport to Manhyia Palace only to be greeted by cattle and their faecal matter,” he added.
