Hon. Andy Kwame Appiah Kubi, Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, has expressed his infuriation over the monetization which has characterized the country’s political system in recent times. Addressing the press after the just ended New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries, Lawyer Appiah Kubi described the manner in which some aspirants pump so much money into the recent elections, thus making politics seem unpleasant. At the back of this, Lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi was engaged in an exclusive interview with CJ on Denkyiraman Radio’s National Agenda stated that aspiring candidates aiming for political offices should be weighed based on their capabilities and track record over the years and not material possessions they may have to offer.
“If care is not taken, Ghana in years to come would produce people who would find inappropriate ways to get money for political powers and later cover those inappropriate activities with the power they obtain” Lawyer Appiah Kubi said. He warned that people should do away with monetization from politics and embrace transparent and “free and fair” elections.
He continued that, he’d blame political parties for the craving for money in voters because they have decided to be chosen by their “who has much to give away” other than their merits and qualities. This process would always pave way for incapable and unqualified leaders, he said.
In an answer to
what he as a Lawyer and Member of Parliament is doing to curb the monetization sense, Lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi said there’s been applauding and support from colleagues which is encouraging enough.
Therefore on resumption of parliament sitting, there will be mounting of a huge crusade against monetization.
