GFA Elections: George Afriyie disqualified from presidential race.

Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidential aspirant George Afriyie has been disqualified from contesting the GFA presidential elections for breaching GFA Article 13 (2) j and failure to provide another necessary requirement.

According to the GFA Elections Committee, they did not get the requirements set out by the committee to be eligible for the elections later this year.

According to the elections guidelines instituted in 2019, a candidate shall have endorsements from five members of the football governing body, and the endorsement shall be from authorized signatories.

Hence, Mr. George Afriyie could not get the support from members of the football family as two of his subscribers were either not authorized signatories or did not endorse him at all.

Techiman Eleven Wonders, per the election committee through Nana Ameyaw Manu, swore a statutory declaration that had no reference to Afriyie’s nomination form.

Also, Victory Warriors FC, once of the clubs that endorsed the former FA vice president, was signed by Jeffrey Asare, who was not an authorized signatory to the club.

With these two endorsements considered, Mr. Afriyie is left with three, which renders his nomination form invalid.

It is unclear if George Afriyie will appeal to the decision, though those with knowledge of the legal system believe he should have been allowed to make corrections on his nomination forms.

Other football commentators believe the timing of the release will also be a distraction to the impending match between the black stars of Ghana and their counterparts from the Central African Republic.
