The Central Regional Minister, Mr Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, has challenged traditional leaders to take a stronger interest in local governance by demanding accountability from public officials responsible for development projects in their communities.
He urged chiefs and other traditional authorities to maintain regular engagement with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and insist on periodic updates on government programmes and infrastructure projects within their traditional areas.
Mr Eduamoah made the call at a People’s Accountability Forum held at Twifo Mampong in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region.
As part of the event, the Minister commissioned 48 newly constructed lockable stores at the Twifo Old Market.
He also presented classroom furniture and sanitary pads to the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District Education Directorate to improve teaching and learning conditions in schools across the district.
The Member of Parliament for Twifo Atti-Morkwa, Mr Theophilus T.D. Vondee, said the forum was designed to promote transparency and provide citizens with a platform to assess the government’s development efforts.
He said many Ghanaians had faced severe economic and social challenges in recent years, describing the accountability forum as an important mechanism for strengthening public participation and monitoring government performance.
The District Chief Executive for Twifo Atti-Morkwa, Mr Isaac Yawson, appealed to residents to rise above political divisions and work collectively towards the development of the district.
He stressed that meaningful development could only be achieved through unity, cooperation and a shared commitment to improving infrastructure, education and other essential public services.
