The Member of Parliament for Twifo Atti-Morkwa, Hon. David T.D. Vondee, has described football as a global industry with the potential to create wealth, employment and life-changing opportunities for the youth.
He said the modern game had evolved beyond recreation into a lucrative profession, with many footballers earning incomes comparable to, and in some cases exceeding, those in traditional careers.
The MP made the remarks at a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of an AstroTurf facility at Twifo Praso, where he stressed the need for increased investment in sports infrastructure to harness the talents of young people.
Hon. Vondee said the project formed part of his commitment to youth empowerment and sports development, adding that it was being funded through his share of the Member of Parliament’s Common Fund.
He noted that Twifo Atti-Morkwa had enormous football potential, with many talented young players yet to be discovered, and expressed optimism that the facility would provide a platform for nurturing future football stars.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Twifo Atti-Morkwa, Hon. Isaac Yawson, described the project as a landmark investment that would positively impact youth development in the district.
He said the area had already produced notable footballers, including Asante Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku, and expressed confidence that the new facility would help discover and develop more talents.
The Chief Executive Officer of Brag Ghana Limited, the company undertaking the project, Mr Eddy Danquah, assured residents that construction works would begin within the next one to two weeks.
He called on the people of Twifo Atti-Morkwa to support the project and ensure the facility was protected during construction and after completion, stressing that it remained a valuable asset for the entire district.
