The Minister for Energy and Green Transition has asked the chief executive of power transmission firm GRIDCo to step aside pending investigations into a fire at the Akosombo power control center, Minister of State for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu said on Sunday.

Kwakye Ofosu, in a Facebook post, also said there had been a “major shake up” in the leadership of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Ashanti Region. He gave no further details on the changes or the fire incident.

Energy and Green Transition Minister John Jinapor will hold a briefing at 2 p.m. local time on Monday to address recent developments in electricity distribution, Kwakye Ofosu said.

The developments come amid public concern over power supply stability in parts of the country. GRIDCo operates Ghana’s national transmission system, while ECG handles power distribution in southern Ghana, including the Ashanti Region.
