The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned widespread reports of inducement and vote-buying during its parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency, describing the alleged acts as a violation of the party’s principles and values.

In a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Mr Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC said it had launched a full-scale investigation into the allegations and would take swift disciplinary action against any candidate found culpable.

“The party vehemently condemns these actions in no uncertain terms as they represent an affront to the values and principles of the party and the reset agenda the party is championing,” the statement said.

The party further warned that future incidents of vote-buying could attract more severe sanctions, including the possible cancellation of elections.

The Ayawaso East primary is being held to select a parliamentary candidate for a by-election following the death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Mr Naser Toure.

Reports of gift-giving and other forms of inducement emerged during the voting process, which involves more than 1,100 delegates.

The investigation comes amid heightened scrutiny of the conduct of some aspirants, as the party signals zero tolerance for bribery ahead of the upcoming by-election.
