Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has pledged to uphold the rule of law and safeguard the independence of the judiciary, stressing strict adherence to the principle of separation of powers.
Speaking at his swearing-in ceremony on Monday, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie vowed to protect the Constitution, promote accountability within the judiciary, and shield judges from improper influence.
“Mr. President, in accepting this office, I give my solemn word that I will uphold the rule of law, respect the separation of powers, and protect the Constitution. I will respect the independence of every judge and ensure that the judiciary remains free from improper influence. I will also insist on accountability,” he stated.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie now assumes full responsibility for steering the judiciary, overseeing court administration, and strengthening public confidence in the justice system.
His appointment comes at a time when the judiciary faces heightened scrutiny over delays in case management and renewed calls for unwavering commitment to judicial independence.
