A confrontation between traders and the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly’s task force turned violent on Wednesday, May 28, during a decongestion exercise in the Central Business District of Kasoa.
Four people sustained injuries in the clash.
The exercise, which aimed to clear pedestrian walkways of unauthorized structures, escalated when some phone dealers resisted the removal of their tents and reportedly hurled stones at the task force.
The situation quickly turned chaotic, resulting in injuries to three task force members and one trader.
The violence also caused a temporary blockage of the Kasoa-Bawjiase junction, disrupting vehicular movement and raising public concern over the safety and approach of the operation.
The decongestion exercise began three days ago, with the first two days proceeding without incident. Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the altercation.
