Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori Agyeman has officially launched a city-wide decongestion initiative, effective today, May 5, 2025. The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) will begin clearing unauthorized structures and removing goods displayed on pavements as part of efforts to restore order in the central business district and reclaim public spaces.
Speaking to the media, the Mayor outlined key areas targeted in the operation, including the Kejetia Roundabout (Otumfuo Roundabout), Adehyeman area near the Kumasi Zoo, Adum, Pampaso, Dr. Mensah, Zoo enclave, Dunkirk, Roman Hill, and Alarba. He warned traders and unauthorized occupants to vacate the streets immediately, stressing that no further warnings will be issued.
“We’ll clear all unauthorized occupants and remove any street obstructions, including metal objects,” Mr. Agyeman stated. He emphasized that the Assembly has provided sufficient notice, and that continued illegal occupation of public spaces will no longer be tolerated. “I will not make any more announcements. Everyone knows we will not entertain them there,” he added.
