A significant number of newly posted teachers have threatened to boycott classrooms unless their outstanding salaries are paid by May 6, 2025.
The teachers, who have not been paid since September 2024, staged a protest at the Ghana Education Service (GES) headquarters on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, to express their frustration over the continued delays.
“We’re employed and ready to teach, but the government needs to step up and pay our salaries—and sort out our IDs,” one protesting teacher said.
The teachers warned of sustained protests if May salaries are not paid, expressing growing frustration with the lack of resolution.
“In May, we want to receive our salary. That is our goal. If it doesn’t come, I think there will be more picketing,” another teacher stated.
“We’re funding our own protests and won’t back down until we get what we deserve,” said another.
According to the aggrieved teachers, the outcome of the situation will signal whether government leaders truly value their contributions and will guide their decision on returning to the classroom.
They are demanding urgent action from both the Education and Finance Ministries to finalize salary entries through the newly opened portal.
“We’ll keep protesting until our May salaries are paid. We can’t survive much longer without income,” one teacher emphasized.
